2013 Workshops
PLEIN AIR PAINTING IN SANTA BARBARA, CA
Dates: January 18-21
Contact: Bill Hull – hullsart@cox.net
Fee: $200
This workshop will focus on helping students to render a convincing and engaging representational painting on location, in the limited amount of time that the plein air painter has to work with. Get it right, get it down, get it finished.
Locations will include the beaches, bluffs, parks and estuaries that are part of Santa Barbara’s stunning landscape. The workshop will be geared to working in oil, but painters may work in other mediums if they wish as the learning in this workshop will be around principals that are the foundational for all plein air painters.

PAINTING THE LIGHT
Location: Sorrento, BC
Dates: March 22-25
Contact: Gaye Adams – gayeadams@telus.net
Cost: $475 (includes model fee)
This four day workshop will work with painting light in a number of different applications; painting light from the still life, the model, and lastly, rendering convincing light from your own photo references, a skill which modern day artists require, but that requires a knowledge of painting the light from life first.
Creating the optical illusion of strong light in a painting takes a solid observation of tonal and temperature relationships - a skill best learned by working from life, and letting that experience inform paintings rendered from photo references.
