This workshop focuses on seeing and recreating accurate values and colours to create precise relationships within your painting to render the effects of light. Students will start the session working from photo reference. Then, in the studio, some small study exercises will be practiced as a way to hone the skills necessary to achieve the effects of light on canvas.
Weather permitting, we will paint outdoors focusing on colour composition and finished field sketches. Overall, you will learn colour mixing, design, outdoor painting logistics, and other practical techniques to improve light in your paintings.
This workshop continues to explore depicting light in paintings, and will expand on the principles from the workshop of last summer. Although past attendance is helpful, it is by no means mandatory as there will be a review of basic principles on the first morning. In this second workshop, we will explore how to design paintings around light source and effect, and how to choose and photograph subject matter in order to create luminous studio work.
